    • June 6th: D-Day Veterans Rally protest from 4:30pm until 6:30pm at the intersection of Johnston St. and University Ave. (by the Domino’s by the Fellowship). See details below.
    • June 8th: ICE Processing Center at Jena protest at 12:30pm at 830 Pinehill Road, Jena 71342. The protest centers Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest as well as other political detainees. See details below.
    • July 21st: Moving Day for Lafayette Elementary School. Lafayette Elementary School will be moving to the old Lafayette Middle School on University at Congress. They are looking for volunteers from 8AM through noon to help teachers unload school supplies and placing them in their new classrooms. Sign ups and more details to come in upcoming newsletters.
    • July 26th: UU Common Read Book Club at 3PM at Cavalier House Books (302A Jefferson Street). We will be discussing the UU Common Read book Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families published by Skinner House and interviews by Peggy Gillespie. See details below.

    HAPPENINGS

    UU Common Read Book Club

    The UU Common Read for 2024-205 is Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families (Skinner House, 2023). The book explores the lives of trans and nonbinary people through interviews and photo portraits depicting their revelations, challenges, joys, and networks of support.

    We will be hosting a book club meeting on July 26th at 3PM at Cavalier House Books (302A Jefferson Street). Please sign up at our Facebook event page. We would like to get a head count of those interested to hash out the ordering details with Cavalier House Books.

    Protest at ICE Processing Center in Jena

    Several organizations are gathering to protest Mahmoud Khalil’s unlawful detainment at the ICE Processing Center in Jena (address is 830 Pinehill Road, Jena, LA 71342) as well as the unlawful detention of other detainees, and the genocide in Gaza. The protest will start at 1PM on June 8th, but we are asking people to arrive by 12:30PM.

    D-Day Veterans Protest

    There will be a protest on the intersection of Johnston Street and University Avenue (by the Domino’s next to the Fellowship) on June 6th from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. The protest centers 50501 Vets Five Demands:

    • Reverse cuts to the VA, rehire fired employees, fully fund the PACT Act
    • Ensure VA support, healthcare, and counseling for MST Survivors
    • Overturn the trans ban and ensure full healthcare access for trans veterans and active duty members
    • Restore protections for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in VA and DoD
    • Protect democracy, restore diplomatic norms, and maintain strong alliances with global democratic leadership.

    Help for ULL Campus Cupboard

    The Campus Cupboard at UL Lafayette is in need of the following items:

    Foodstuffs: cereal, canned fruit, canned tuna/chicken, ramen noodles, meals in a can (such as stew or soup), microwavable meals (such as potatoes, rice, pasta, mac and cheese, etc.), powdered milk, jelly, peanut butter, crackers, dried beans, granola bars, protein bars.

    Toiletries: Dish soap, laundry detergent.

    Hygiene products: soap, toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products.

    Please bring any donations to service on Sunday. We will continue to deliver to the Cupboard.

    Meditation Thursdays

    MaryAnn Doyle invites you to join her in a series of meditation sessions. If you’d like to attend, please stop by! This is an informal event. Meditations will occurs on Thursdays at 3:30PM.
